Summary
Margo is a 19 year old college student when she starts an affair with her married English professor. Margo’s Got Money Troubles starts with Margo getting pregnant from the affair and, despite everyone’s advice, she decides to keep the baby. She falls in love instantly with Bodie and vows to always be the best mother she can be. But the realities of raising a child hits hard and fast – roommates leave, she gets fired from her waitress job, and child care is impossible. In spite of all the challenges she faces, Margo never loses sight on what’s most important.
But a girl has to make rent! She gives Only Fans a try and becomes very successful at it earning an income that provides well for her and Bodie and lets her stay home with him. However, her happy ending can’t come that easily. A battle with CPS and paternity custody with Bodie’s father but her to the ultimate test. Throw in her father’s return to her life and a mother who continues to be damaging and it gets even more complicated. Margo stays honest and always speaks her truth. Showing us that owning who you are without shame is so important.

I can’t say I fell in love with the story right away! Between her weird ex-WWE dad and his drug adiction, her trauma-informed relationship with her mom, and a lot of talk about dicks, I was kind of put off at first. But Margo grew on me and as it turns out, she is much more emotionally mature than I am. She owns her truth is a way that doesn’t give off a tone superiority, but instead in a way that shows just how mature and self-assured she is. She isn’t impulsive, she’s reflective. I ended up really liking her and respecting her for how she cares for her son, how she cares for her father, and ultimately how she cares for herself. It was funny and incredibly insightful. A fun read!
🎧 I listed to the audio book on Audible. The story was read by Elle Fanning who I remember from the movie Maleficent. I think she did an excellent job reading the story! The point of view changed a lot from first to third person but with her cadence it was easy to keep up.
