I am a 46-year-old perimenopausal mom. These are the skin care products I use every day.
I used to think I had sensitive skin. But I think really I was sensitive to low quality products. My skin has changed a lot through puberty, pregnancy, post-breast feeding, and now into perimenopause. I suspect it will continue to change. My job is to pay attention and to adapt.
When I was 41, things started to change for me in the hormone department. It was frustrating and confusing. Finally, I came to understand these changes as perimenopause. And I started making the connection between these hormone shifts and my skin health a couple of years later. After trial and error, research, and recommendations, I have settled on a routine that works… for now!
Here is what I use daily and why.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I use this to remove makeup before I cleanse each evening. It is gentle and super affordable. There are several types, but I like the Vitamin C one.

Indie Lee Cleansing Balm
I actually got this at a local boutique store, but it’s available on Amazon for a little less. I use this after I’ve removed my makeup to cleanse my skin. The reviews are mixed on Amazon. Here’s my tip: I use it differently than the instructions on the tube say. I squirt some on my hand and work into a lather before putting on my face. Then I rinse off. The smell is heavenly! And it leaves my skin feeling soft.

Hero Pore Release
I started getting a big, gross zit on my nose and it was coming out of the same large pore. I’ve been using this daily on my T-zone to reduce the size of my pores and it works great! There is no smell and it doesn’t leave a film. The zit stopped showing up! Looks like I’ll be adding this to my cart too as I am almost out!

Cetaphil Healthy Renew Serum
I’ve tried a lot of serums. And Instagram ads have tried to get me to spend hundreds of dollars on them. I’m always nervous to try skin care products that are that expensive – what if it is bad for my skin or worse, what if I like it and then I’m committed to spending $70 on face serum every month! After a lot of thinking about it and wondering what to do, I tried this one and I’m almost finished with my second bottle. It feels fresh and makes my skin glow!

Cetaphil Eye Gel Serum
Here we go with another Cetaphil product. I’m still undecided if I need eye cream but I like having it for days when I do feel extra dry around the eyes. This one is not sticky and it works well over makeup for a midday application too.

Cetephil Moisturizing Lotion
I’ve struggled the most with my face cream choices but this one has lasted the longest. It’s light but very hydrating. And it is very reasonably priced.

Cetaphil Nourishing Oil to Foam Cleanser
This is the cleanser I use when I wash my face in the shower. It’s gentle and hydrating and lasts a long time.

Jergens Original Scent Body Lotion
When I first became a mom, I wanted to build a scent connection between me and my child. I wanted to have a scent that always reminded him of me, even into adulthood. It sounds psycho but I thought of it as something comforting – as a baby learning the safety of my arms and even as an adult in his memories of me through the connection of scent. I settled on Jergens Cherry Almond because it is a classic and I thought it would have a high possibility of being around for decades and easy to find in stores. I use it everyday after my shower.

Jergens Calming Lavender Lotion
I keep this on my nightstand to moisturize my hands before bed. It’s a beautiful scent!

Tree Hut Overnight Lip Mask
This is also on my nightstand for bedtime application. I actually chose this brand because my daughter, who is 9, recommended it. She knows more about beauty products than I do! It smells amazing, is not heavy, and moisturizes beautifully.

Tweezerman Facial Razor
I started dermaplaning several years ago. (That’s fancy for shaving my face!) The intent was to help my moisturizer and foundation work better. There are some misconceptions about how the hair grows back. But it doesn’t grow back darker, thicker, or coarser. It grows back as the same peach fuzz like always. But it definitely improves how moisturizer and foundation work with your skin. I dermaplane once a week. It’s weirdly satisfying to see all that fuzz come off!

Battery Operated Facial Hair Remover
This is quite possibly my favorite thing on this list! I use this baby every morning before I put on my makeup to catch any sneaky upper lip hairs that want to embarrass me. I run this over my lip area and it takes care of those hairs that I can’t see!
